Sun Damage Treatment in Colorado Springs

Living in Colorado means 300+ days of sunshine — and at 6,000+ feet, that sun hits harder than most people realize. Sun damage accumulates silently over years, showing up as dark spots, rough texture, fine lines, and uneven tone. At PureDerm, we repair existing damage and help protect your skin going forward.

What Causes Sun Damage?

UV radiation damages skin DNA, breaks down collagen and elastin fibers, and triggers excess melanin production. UVA rays (aging rays) penetrate deep into the dermis, while UVB rays (burning rays) damage the epidermis. At Colorado Springs' altitude, UV intensity is approximately 25% higher than at sea level. Snow, water, and sand reflect UV rays, increasing exposure even more.

Signs & Symptoms

Sun spots (solar lentigines), rough or leathery texture, fine lines and wrinkles (especially around eyes and mouth), uneven skin tone, visible broken capillaries, loss of skin elasticity, and in severe cases, actinic keratoses (rough, scaly patches that should be evaluated by a dermatologist).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can sun damage be reversed?+

Much of the visible effects of sun damage — dark spots, rough texture, fine lines — can be significantly improved with professional treatments. However, prevention is crucial. Daily SPF 30+ is non-negotiable in Colorado, even on cloudy days and during winter.

I wear sunscreen every day. Can I still have sun damage?+

Yes — most people don't apply enough sunscreen, don't reapply often enough, or miss areas like the ears, neck, and hands. Past sun exposure (even from childhood) contributes to cumulative damage. A professional skin assessment can reveal sun damage that isn't yet visible to the naked eye.
